Program Description

Event Details

This monthly virtual writing group will meet on the 4th Thursday of the month from 12-1:30 beginning in January. Our sessions are relaxed and supportive, where participants can read their own work aloud, ask questions and gather feedback. We are a small group of amateur writers who enjoy reflection, listening to each other's stories, giving encouragement, and practicing and refining our memoir writing craft. We seek and welcome new participants!

Our memoir group is hosted and facilitated by Jerry Waxler, NCC writing instructor, author, and licensed therapist. Once registered, Jerry will provide a Zoom link a few days before each class. If you do not receive the link or if you have any questions, please contact Regina Kochmaruk at rkochmaruk@bapl.org or at 484-892-6267 (BAPL Coolidge Branch).

Join the sessions as you desire, although it is recommended that you attend regularly since consistency with writing is best. In each meeting, share a short, casual piece that describes some incident from your life (speaking time limit around 7 or 8 minutes.) You are free to write about any topic, but participants often express appreciation when suggestions are provided.

For the month of September, consider the following topics and words to help prompt a written story:

  • sobriety (September is Recovery Month)
  • neighbors
  • school related -first day, buses, pictures
  • a time when you were late
  • tailgating
  • grandparents
  • Star Trek
  • 9/11
  • citizenship
  • stepfamilies
  • dance
  • hunting / fishing
  • pets
