Program Description

Event Details

Who were the notorious Doan Gang? Were they traitors to the American Revolutionary cause and Tory spies? Were they loyal British subjects? Were they murderous robbers and horse thieves? Or were they some combination of all of these things? Did they hide away a stolen fortune that has never been recovered? Their exploits have fascinated historians and folklorists, and they have been featured on the Discovery Channel’s Expedition Unknown with Josh Gates and in a 250th Anniversary exhibit at the Mercer Museum.

Annie Halliday, the Mercer Museum Director of Library and Archives, will share her research on the Doan Gang and their activities in Bucks County during the American Revolution. Using contemporary research with court documents, eyewitness accounts, and newspaper appearances, she sorts out the historical facts.
