The Reading to Therapy Dogs Program is known for improving children’s reading and communication skills as well as the their self-confidence and overall emotional well-being. In this program, children read aloud to a trained therapy dog, creating a relaxed and supportive environment that fosters a love for reading and enhances literacy development. The core principle revolves around the absence of judgment; instead of being critiqued, children find a patient and attentive listener in the dog.
This program is open to independent readers only. In order to maintain a calm, relaxed, and organized event, parents and caregivers may wait in the library hallway. There will be an opportunity after each session to take a photo of your child with the therapy dog. Please call BAPL Coolidge at 484-892-6267 to schedule a 15 minute session. If you need to cancel a session, please give 24 hour advanced notice so we may contact those on the waiting list.
This program is generously offered by volunteers from Lehigh Valley Therapy Dogs. We appreciate and respect their time, dedication, and expertise.
