Author Nate Schweber gives a 50-minute multimedia history of Bernard DeVoto's battles to preserve America's national parks and public lands in the McCarthy era, plus the untold conservation origin of Avis DeVoto's epic friendship with chef Julia Child. Nate Schweber is a Missoula, Montana native now living in Brooklyn, New York. His book, This America of Ours: Bernard and Avis DeVoto and the Forgotten Fight to Save the Wild, published by HarperCollins in 2022, won the 2023 High Plains Book Award for nonfiction. The Outdoor Writers Association of America awarded it first place in its 2023 book competition. Schweber's crime reporting appears regularly in The New York Times. His work has also appeared in ProPublica, Preservation Magazine, and Anthony Bourdain’s Explore Parts Unknown.
