The 1619 Project began as a long-form journalism project published in the New York Times Magazine in 2019. The book, edited by Nikole Hannah-Jones, followed in 2021. Both publications include contributions from a variety of well-known contemporary authors who re-examine the legacy of chattel slavery in the context of multiple aspects of American history. Our discussion, led by Lehigh University professor Stephanie Powell Watts, will be held on Zoom. Registration is required. Zoom invites will be sent out via email the day prior to the meeting.
